 Knowing upfront that Bates Motel frontman Master Bates used to be in Annihilator, the band masterminded by Jeff Waters, who is also this album's producer, I assumed I'd be hearing crunchy, aggressive metal, a la Metallica and Megadeth. While at times those assumptions are not completely off, there's much more to be found here, with the aforementioned crisp, metallic crunch meshed with a goth influence heard in both Bates vocals and the moody, textured, at times acoustic, musical passages, plus occasional doses of trance and industrial (most notably on "Famous Murders") resulting in an impressive debut, where alongside the twelve originals, you'll also find a great cover of The Rocky Horror Show's "Sweet Transvestite".
