Possessed To Skate (Pessimiser Records)

By: Jeb Branin

Finally the vinyl classic is now available in digital. This is without a doubt my favorite extreme hardcore/power violence compilation ever. CHARLES BRONSON, SPAZZ, ASSHOLE PARADE, PRETENTIOUS ASSHOLES, UNANSWERED, PALATKA, and DESPISE YOU each spit out a bunch of tunes. All of it is fast, all of it is over the top, and all of it kicks me in the head. This album, released on LP about two years ago, is a snapshot of a scene that was just starting to swell into the tidal wave that it has now become. For example two years ago CHARLES BRONSON was only just beginning to become a high profile name in the scene. Today, they have broken up and collectors are mortgaging their homes and children to buy their out-of-print records. The SPAZZ recordings on here capture the band in a transition period in their sound and have elements of both the old and new. DESPISE YOU are one of my favorite bands and these are some of their most solid recordings. With around forty songs you would assume that at least a handful of them must be sub par. Well you know what assuming does... There is nary a weak moment on the disc, let alone a weak band or even tune. This is as essential for hardcore fans as the "Cry Now, Cry Later" series is. Trust me.
