Lenny Molotov
Lenny Molotov [Cassette] (Microscopic Lighthouse)

By: Gary Pig Gold

Mr. Molotov, mysterious denizen beneath New York's anti-folk scene, recently surfaced in Hoboken, New Jersey's equally clandestine Spatula Ranch Studios to commit to tape a four-song trilogy that bravely spans several presidencies and just about as many key-changes. Yep, in his uniquely nefarious way, Lenny herein slaps the P.Ochs treatment on the Kennedy assassination(s), the CIA's recreational drug work, and the many moods - and faces - of Richard M. Nixon (the brilliant, and possibly even prophetic "Dick Will Rise").

But lest you ever think he's just scoring another Oliver Stoned movie, Molotov's melody-play, adventurous in its sly commerciality, will keep all ears brightly amused throughout, even if the brain should veer toward the dial-a-conspiracy of the subject matter. And unlike his fellow Village hooters, who all too often bully and ultimately bore with their text-book self-righteousness, Lenny wisely drives each and every note - and point - home with a wink and, yes, a hook. Look away for one moment and you might think you're curling up beside another Burl Ives, but watch out: that Walkman might be tapped - and come to think of it, where were you on November 22, 1963 anyways?
