Disarray A Lesson In Respect (Eclipse Records) By: Jeb Branin
DISARRAY just keep honing their sound. They get tougher, harder and meaner with each release as abundantly demonstrated on "A Lesson In Respect" their debut full length CD. Their sound is as heavy and intense as most death metal but they shun the trappings of the genre instead opting for a sound that is more akin oldschool thrash melded with new breed RoadRunner style metal. Their guitar work does to your eardrums what a cheese grater does to a block of cheddar. Their vocals are lean and mean growls and screams while the rhythm pounds the nails into your coffin. Sometimes fast, sometimes not DISARRAY are comfortable taking a variety of approaches to their music while never sacrificing the power that defines them. The only negative on the whole album is their butchering of LYNYRD SKYNYRD's "Freebird" which they turn into a SABBATH-esque dirge. Bleck.
