A true legend dishes out his latest offering less, it seems, to release a new collection of songs and more to unveil his cyber world. That's right David Bowie "the artist" is now David Bowie "the internet community." What-the-hell-ever. Fortunately he isn't so wrapped up in davidbowie.com he forgot to make a good album. "Hours" is often relaxed, often casual and often introspective but it is also sharply executed and more in tune with that quirky Bowie take on traditional pop sensibilities than he has been in a long time. The music is deeply textured and rich. So much so that at times it is down right dense. Definitely not a bad thing, mind you. Bowie's music should be as complex as the man, it seems to me, and "Hours" is just that. 3D cover art and flawless overproduction add to the impact of the release. Really the only fault I can find on the CD is perhaps a lack of dynamics from tune to tune, but he never allows things to get in a rut. If for no other reason you will want to hear this album for the tune "The Pretty Things Are Going To Hell" which sounds like a Bowie take on Alice Cooper. A brilliant pop tune any way you slice it.
