Hi-Standard
Making The Road (Fat Wreck Chords)

By: Jeb Branin

It is not every day that a pop punk band does a BLACK SABBATH cover but HI-STANDARD are not your "everyday" pop punk band either so I guess it makes sense. They tackle "Changes" and turn it from the mellow and introspective number that it is into, well... a pop punk number. You gotta love it. HI-STANDARD are a major item in their homeland of Japan but on this side of the Pacific they have barely been able to secure a reputation as even one of Fat Wreck Chords more high profile bands. This album will change that. Trust me. It has everything you could ask for no matter what your taste in punk lite. It is smoother and flows better than any previous HI-STANDARD opus for you poppy types yet it is faster and more aggressive for you punk types. It is more fun for you adventurous types and it is more creative for you who think you may be getting bored from the same ole' generic pop punk. And how about you folks with a sense of humor? Well in addition to kickin' life into "Changes" they also totally revamp and butcher the theme song to "Green Acres" and set it in Japan (naturally). They throw in a BLOODTHIRSTY BUTCHERS tune called "Crows" which consists of the line "Crows caw loudly" screamed over and over. And just in case that doesn't tickle your funny bone they have a quirky little flute number called "Tinkerbell Hates Goatees" recorded with GOATEES (again, naturally). If you are going to set a standard as to the quality of your pop punk it might as well be a "Hi" one.
