Great White Can't Get There From Here (Portrait) By: Geoff Melton
Since their inception in the early 80's Great White have never been a band to jump on any bandwagon, always sticking to their guns, spitting out straight-ahead blues-tinged rock and roll, sometimes with better results than others. Produced by Jack Blades (Night Ranger, Damn Yankees) their latest disc, Can't Get There From Here, has a rawer, back to basics, sound to it, with a strong emphasis on the songwriting, making it less lumbering than alot of their previous work and resulting in what's possibly the best disc of their career. With surprisingly heavy radio airplay for the first single "Rollin' Stoned" and plenty more potential singles among the remaining cuts Great White appears to be helping bring the so-called "return of metal" to fruition.
