Ponticello
Dark Skies (Ponticello Music)

By: Alex Steininger

Seattle's Ponticello blend a variety of sounds. Ambient grooves sit under rock, funk and folk textures, while the Celtic music and even some trip-hop creep into the sound now and then. The band definitely scores points for originality. Unfortunately, the originality seems to be confusing at times, forcing sounds that don't seem to belong together - together.

The album is a variety of different sounds and flavors, while always relying on the ambient grooves for common ground. It has its moments ("World Don't Stand Still"). But, as a whole, is an album that causes more confusion than enjoyment. I'll give it a D.
