 The title of KBA's third release, Loves A Long Song (in my opinion the best indie album of 2000), reflects a long-running joke. Known for their ever-evolving sets of ten- to twenty-minute songs, Portland's prince of psychedelic rock has coalesced, distilling a dreamy, trance-inducing, hypno-rock ensemble into an impressively tight machine. KBA is oft compared to Pink Floyd, commentary not unjust, and hardly derogatory. Produced amidst band upheaval and reconstruction, their upcoming release -- recorded and mixed by leader Daniel Riddle and engineer Jeff Saltzman -- reflects a rock band possessing qualities ranking with Velvet Underground and Television for their complexity and pop versatility. Loves A Long Song's rhythmic layers, powerful distortion and haunting emotion provides a sensual backdrop for introspection, sex, and all things human. Pick it up and turn it up - loud.
