Listen To What The Man Said: Popular Artists Pay Tribute To The Music of Paul McCartney (Oglio/Tribute)

By: Alex Steininger

Much like its counterpart, Coming Up! Independent Artists Pay Tribute To The Music of Paul McCartney, Listen To What The Man Said is a delightful collection of re-done Paul McCartney classics. Showcasing his post-Beatles hits and helping them find their place in rock 'n' roll history as some of the greatest songs ever written.

Semisonic's "Jet", Robyn Hitchcock's "Let Me Roll It," The Minus 5's "Dear Friend," Matthew Sweet's "Every Night," Sloan's "Waterfalls," and They Might Be Giants' "Ram On" are all knock out pop gems. They're not here to replace McCartney's originals, but rather here to paint new faces on songs that need to be re-lived over and over again.

A filling heap of brilliant, mesmerizing pop goodness. The artists on Listen To What The Man Said all do a grand job of giving McCartney respect and admiration, paying homage and giving the listener a memorable reminder of why you should always keep those McCartney records on hand to listen to again and again. I'll give it an A.
