Chaan! Ban! Thank You Ben
Chaan! Ban! Thank You Ben (Monarch House)

By: Alex Steininger

Punked-up power-pop from Japan, Chaan! Ban! Thank You Ben creates catchy, energetic, sweaty melodies that hook you from the get go, get you up off your ass, and make you move. Boy-girl Japanese vocals help give these songs even more push, making this an instant winner. If you're in the market for some good power-pop, forget labels, tags, and non-essentials, because this is the real deal, an album so potent one listen will make you a fan. Very rarely does this type of album come across my desk. But, it is true. From the opening chords of "Soda-Pop", you're a fan. It's too tight, too punchy, and too damn good not to like. They even slow it down at times to let you soak before they rock you again. And their slow songs are just as mesmerizing as the fast ones. Here are some kids who know how to craft pop of all styles. I'll give this an A+.
