The Glands The Glands (Capricorn Records) By: Alex Steininger
Sparkling indie rock with a modern rock bent, The Glands' self-titled full-length has its ups and downs. As for the down side of the record, the most notable problem is the fact that the majority of the songs sound similar; not carbon copies by any means, by familiar enough to fade into the background until you listen to the album enough that it really grows on you. The upside to the record highly outweighs the downside, though, as The Glands create a slow, methodical album of pop grace and skill, but from time to time (song to song) dirty it up some to give the songs an edge, and to flex their rock muscles. They never go all out and just beat the rock over your head, but stretched in the pop and indie glow they up the guitars, pick up the beat, and give the rock a real test. And it holds up. This is a catchy, delightful album that will find a place in your CD player. I'll give this an A-.
