The Apes
The Fugue In The Fog (FrenchKiss Records)

By: Cam Lindsay

Washington DC's The Apes are insane. Their sound is absolutely nuts. Their debut album The Fugue In The Fog is pure mayhem. One part Stooges, another part Fantomas and The Make-Up, The Apes are made up of a bass, drums, an organ, and an out of control vocalist. They use their name as a songwriting tool, setting the album up to be more of a concept album, possible about just how powerful and fantastic they are. Each element of the music is as heavy as the other. The organ rings and delivers the melody, the bass is as thick as pea soup, complimenting the sheer power of the crashing drums. Paul Weil howls like a coyote and screams like a maniac, proclaiming that The Apes are "gonna take them all down", and he's right.
