Mukeka Di Rato
Acabar Com Voce (Sound Pollution)

By: Jeb Branin

I had a sneaking suspicion that after HELLNATION's tour of Brazil we might see a Brazilian band or two appear on Ken Hellnation's Sound Pollution label. I love it when I'm right... MUKEKA DI RATO are mainstays in the Brazilian extreme music underground and now Sound Pollution is turning them loose in the U.S. If you doubt the quality of Brazilian hardcore then you've been living in a cave (or have been an *NSYNC fan). Brazil is a hotbed of fire breathing hardcore bands and MDR may be the most blistering of them all. They mix machine-gun hardcore with lots of hooks and even some sing-a-longs (it helps if you speak Portugese, I suspect). On "Acabar Com Voce," their third album, MDR pulls out all the stops. They go from less than 30 second songs of epileptic hyper-thrash ("Music Without Message" or "Eta Fogo") to longer, super catchy songs ("Viva the Television" or "A Bit Warm Soup") in a heartbeat. No matter what your hardcore preference, this album is going to have what you are looking for. One of my favorite songs is the final track which is a medley of four songs from bands the members of MDR used to be in (great idea!). Even the cartoon album art is impressive. Yet another nearly perfect CD in the Sound Pollution discography.
