Matt Pond PA
The Nature of Maps (Polyvinyl Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Growing as a songwriter and musician, Matt Pond PA's latest, The Nature of Maps, is more fleshed out and better conceived than his previous effort, The Green Fury. Whereas the latter seemed shaky and naive at points, The Nature of Maps is confident and even bold at times, trading between the indie rock of "New Kehoe NJ" and "Fairlee" to the fervent pop of "Summer Is Coming", through the lo-fi "A Million Middle Fingers". This is Matt Pond PA living up to his hype, combining the lush pop abilities he hinted at on The Green Fury with his indie rock acceptance. I'll give it a B+.
