Col. Bruce Hampton and the Late Bronze Age
Outside Looking Out (Terminus Records)

By: Alex Steininger

After a few pints at the pub, the band gathers at the drummer's house, while his wife is out shopping, and the kids are at the mall. Everyone picks up their instruments and jams away, not really playing together with each other, but rather picking up on each other's vibes and improvising. The outcome is a mesh of sounds; a tribal/Americana/wilderness blend that sounds like everyone is having a grand time. And they were when they recorded it. But, playing it back, everyone realizes how drunk they were and how the album should never be released. However, ego and pride have their way, and the album comes out. And you have something similar to Outside Looking Out by Col. Bruce Hampton and the Late Bronze Age. I'll give it a D.
