Los Straitjackets
Damas y Caballeros! (Cavalcade/YepRoc)

By: Gary "Pig" Gold

If you haven't already, it's way past high time you finally clue in to what -- to drop but five names -- Tom Petty, Conan O'Brien, Rob Zombie, Quentin Tarentino and even Dennis Rodman are already quite quite hep to: The Fender-drenched splendor that is Los Straitjackets.

And what better way for uninitiated ears to be whetted than by this spectacular live document featuring whirlwinded renditions of such wordless nuggets as "Last Date," "State Fair," and especially "Sleepwalk" (tho I must now admit their "Sing Sing Sing" isn't as thoroughly rambunctious as the Flat Duo Jets'). Why, even that damnable "Titanic Love Theme" gets the full-on "Telstar" treatment herein, whilst "Kawanga!" practically pins Dick Dale to the nearest mat.

So then: Imagine the Shadows encountering Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet in some dimly lit back alley, add plenty of Tabasco sauce, stir, then fry. Mmmm, mmmm? GOOD!
