Ron Sexsmith
Cobblestone Runway (Nettwerk America)

By: Alex Steininger

On his sixth full-length, troubadour Ron Sexsmith sounds weary, somehow mustering up a sense of optimism as he walks through life observing. His voice is the mark for which he engraves the songs in your subconscious, a slightly gruff, serene drawl, sounding reserved and timid, knowing that it has some worldly insight to offer up. And if his voice is what engraves on your subconscious, the unassuming pop he painlessly creates, effortlessly weaving between folk and bright melodies, is what catapults his voice to your thought process in the first place, the vehicle for which he is able to reach out and touch you.

Cobblestone Runway forgoes any dark shadows, dealing with the troubles of life in a positive, uplifting manner, always seeing the good in things and expressing that, even when the opposite seems like the easy way out. It is mild-mannered, but has a strong-voice; a pop record that is as soothing as it is insightful. I'll give it an A-.
