The Baptist Generals No Silver / No Gold (Sub Pop) By: Alex Steininger
![](/images/sep.gif)
Completely sparse, sometimes incomplete, demo-y sounding folk-rock. The lo-fi style and emotional, stark lyrical make-up of The Baptist General's debut full-length, No Silver / No Gold, can be hard to swallow, the sketchy-at-best vocals gnawing at your skin while the biting lyrics and bleeding heart feel of the songs try and make up for it. After a few spins it is easier to go down, but until then, it is indeed a tough listen. I'll give it a C+.
