My Mother's Song (self-released)

At first, with "The Witching Hour", one gets the impression that the music is taking a rather WORLD music approach to clearly pagan music lyrics. Flipping through the cd booklet, I notice several illustrations including drawings that appear to be influenced by Egyptian picto-graphics.

The title track, "My Mother's Song", pours out sweetly like a tribute from daughter to her mother, rocking in a lovely cadence. Guitar work on this track exudes rock and blues excellence.

The last song, "Elaina Maria", carries the mood and tone of early David Bowie as in "Space Oddity" or "We Are The Dead". Rowena carries quite the rock'n'roll groove throughout the album.

Rowena bears the vocal fruits of Janis Joplin in a blend of other influences from the classic rock era. Her voice also allows her to dip into the more grinding vocal range of harder rock favourites while presenting the more earthly and erotic themes of.
