Madder Mortem
Deadlands (The End Records)

By: Jeb Branin

Woa. Just the artwork and layout of the "Deadlands" booklet is worth the price of the CD. It is stellar. Musically this is more than just another female fronted post-metal band. MADDER MORTEM is deeply emotive and moody but at the same time has a solid driving throb and bump in the music. Unlike many of their peers, the metal influences of the band are still worn on the sleeve and the music packs a serious punch. The vocalist sounds eerily similar to Grace Slick and as a result I can't help but compare the band to JEFFERSON AIRPLANE. In fact, I daresay that MADDER MORTEM sound more like a 2003 version of early JEFFERSON AIRPLANE than STARSHIP ever did. I can only imagine how mind-blowing it would be to hear MADDER MORTEM cover "White Rabbit." That would be amazing...
