Open Hand
The Dream (Trustkill)

By: Alex Steininger

Playing up its modern rock and indie-pop tendencies, Open Hand's The Dream is a record that bends and molds itself to the occasion. Ripping through fierce, guitar-heavy hard rock, pretty, melodic indie-pop, and hook-laden, crunchy modern rock, scrambling the three, most often, into one compulsive sound that seems schizophrenic at times, and at other times seems to be working in perfect harmony. It's a tough pill to swallow at first. But when you warm up to it, the rock 'n' roll hybrid of Open Hand is something you'll enjoy, offering up everything for all moods, whether its a screaming rocker because you're mad, a melodic song to sing along with when you're happy, or something to ponder and wander with. I'll give it a B-.
