Voodou
The Blessings of Curses (Underground, Inc.)

By: Jett Black

Looking for something off-center? How about female vocals with a serious kick? Test-drive Voodou! 10 tracks hit the ground charging full speed ahead with catchy licks from "For Thyne Enemy" that will stick in your mouth like the theme for Nightmare on Elm Street. Plus, this song provides sure-fire voodou remedies for eliminating personal enemies. Vocal stylings (Michelle Walters) and lyrical development line up nicely with music put together by Meg Lee Chin. Twisted around torments of religion and social politics, songs such as "The Heretic", "Dogfight", and "Silver & Gold" indicate more troubled reflections brooding just beneath the surface. Passions flair and seduce a compulsive urge to dance within irresistible tracks such as "Doomsday", and (my favourite) "Trouble with the Fix". (A)
