My Chemical Romance
I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love (Warner Bros. Records)

By: Alex Steininger

New Jersey-based five-piece emo-rockers My Chemical Romance split open at the seams on their debut, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love. It is an album filled with equally compelling song titles like "Honey, This Mirror Isn't Big Enough For The Two Of Us" and "Vampires Will Never Hurt You". Fast, aggressive, and explosive, the band plays loud and proud, screaming and whining together, at times wearing your nerves thin with their aggravating emo, while other times playing without any pretensions, dropping the emo, and going for razor sharp rock - when is when they're at their best. I Brought You... is flawed, but it is in those flaws, the band's ability to transform from agonizing emo band to nu-metal purveyors to melodic hardcore outfit, that they also excel. I'll give this a C+.
