Stars As Eyes
Loud New Shit (Tigerbeat6)

By: Cam Lindsay

After releasing their second album earlier this year on Kid 606's Tigerbeat6, Enemy Of Fun, Stars As Eyes (the duo of Steve "Ferrari" and Craig "Four") are already back with a follow-up EP or mini-album as it turns out. Featuring four brand new songs and a slew of remixes, this release comes close to an actual full-length with its multi-track inclusion. The four new songs combine experimental computer technology and a rock structure creating a futuristic pop tour-de-force. The highlight of these, "Guardian of Cemeteries", sounds somewhere between the early works of Depeche Mode and The Jesus & Mary Chain, using dark techno pop and chainsaw driven feedback to make its point. The remixes are all quite faithful to the Stars As Eyes originals and the remixer's reputation. Most striking is M?m's treatment of "Resistance Days", which is given a ambient caress by the Icelandic quartet's obscure gentility. Loud New Shit may not satisfy the way a full-on album does, but it has some moments of interest that should excite fans.
