The Joggers
Solid Guild (Star Time International)

By: Alex Steininger

The Joggers' debut, Solid Guild, on the reputable, impeccable taste indie label, Star Time International, just doesn't make the grade, especially on a premiere indie label like Star Time. Their angular guitars, post-punk influence, and chaotic rhythms - their math rock impulses - have a time and place, but Solid Guild sounds like a band in shambles, falling apart and trying to pull it together, placing duct tape over areas that need serious fixing. The result is a jumbled, messy concoction that, though may be praised in some indie rock circles (especially for the label its on), seems repetitive and downright grating. It cuts into your nerves even further with nasally vocals that make you want to go, "here's a tissue, blow your nose, then sing". I'll give this a C-.
