Kylie
Body Language (Virgin)

By: Cam Lindsay

Outside of her native Australia and foster home, the UK, Kylie Minogue has only had two hits: "Locomotion" and "Can't Get You Out Of My Head". Yet, it's a real travesty that this has been the outcome for pop's real princess. Though Madonna's always had her risqu? business to make her interesting, to anyone who follows the camp world of pop, the last five years have belonged to Kylie. Body Language, her fifth album since reinventing herself with the brilliant "Confide In Me", reinforces that statement fully. There isn't a doubt that this is her best album, for Body Language aims for substance and consistency over the usual four killers, the rest filler. Borrowing from the current electro trends that have pushed her former re-mixer Fischerspooner and Felix Da Housecat into a brief spotlight, Kylie does the complete opposite of what she should have done in the 80s. "Slow" fritters to an epileptic beat and at first makes for a surprising first single for the album, but it's a nice way to come back after making possibly the most catchy song ever. She hits major club potential on tracks like "Sweet Music" and "I Feel For You", the album's most adventurous song. It'll be interesting to see what she'll do in the future since she's admitting that 35 is too old to show her famous rear. However, for her age, Kylie is acting right, and has given the world another batch of songs to keep in their heads.
