Big Fast Car
Fuel for the Fire (self-released)

By: Alex Steininger

Southern-fried rock 'n' roll with a penchant for punk, Big Fast Car's Fuel for the Fire would be just a typical bar rock record. However, the band implements enough modern rock gloss, production techniques, and punk frills to keep it from sounding stale and run-of-the-mill. Matter of fact, they help push it up to the next level, making it sound like a blossoming rock band that loves punk, Southern, and modern rock, and is still trying to figure out how to blend them all together. At times the band hits the money and delivers a hook-laden song that finds you singing along, and during other times sounds like they're trying too hard for radio stardom, and later on sound like a band that just wants to rock to have fun. It's a mixed bag here, but that seems to be their real enjoyment. I'll give it a C.
