Oxford Collapse
Some Wilderness (Kanine Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Brooklyn, NY-based trio Oxford Collapse come crashing down on you with their debut full-length, Some Wilderness, an album rooted in post-punk mayhem and new wave excitement, all intertwined with a love of time signature changes in the middle of songs. It's abrasive, edgy, and not an easy listen, the slicing guitars buzzing while the rhythm section bobs and weaves with their own mesh of hard-hitting, catch-me-if-you-can rhythms. If at first you don't get the record, it is because, as I said, it isn't an easy listen. But given time and dedication, one will get a good idea of what is going on and embrace it. If you like things that shake it up, and are a fan of unpredictability, than Oxford Collapse's cutting sound will win you over when you give it time. I'll give it a B.
