Anthrax
Music of Mass Destruction (Sanctuary)

By: Mike SOS

Anthrax, from lead singer changes to label-hopping, have survived the type of things that metal bands normally don't, so it serves the NYC thrash metal pioneers right that the opening track on this live CD/DVD offering is titled "What Doesn't Die". After all, 20 years in the metal game has its crests and waves, and Lord knows Charlie, Scott, Frank, John, and Rob have had their share. Music of Mass Destruction is a celebration of the perseverance of Anthrax; filmed and recorded during the band's most recent stop to Chicago, "the most metal place in the US" according to John Bush, the band's vast catalog is performed to the delight of the rowdy yet knowledgeable crowd at The Metro on December 5th, 2003. The crowd, acting like a sixth man on stage, hammer home the staying power that songs like "Caught In A Mosh" and "I Am The Law" have, vehemently singing along to music nearly two decades ago. Conversely, newer tracks like the soon-to-be classic "Safe Home" and "Only" also are given similar treatment, proving that Anthrax is a band whose rabid fan base and timeless metal contributions are undeniable. Truly an invigorating listen, Music of Mass Destruction will leave you deep in anticipation for the next time Anthrax will come for you all.
