Winds
Imaginary Direction of Time (The End)

By: Mike SOS

The Norwegian quartet named Winds are a bunch of accomplished blokes who, in their spare time, have joined forces to create an eclectic mixture of metal, progressive rock, and classical music, much like Opeth has laid the groundwork for. On the band's third release, the 12-track Imaginary Direction of Time, you'll hear everything from ripping guitar solos to somber string arrangements, and that's only on the lead track "What is Beauty?" It's quite obvious that Winds is trying to surpass the average side group stigma and instead strive to comprise musical mastery, as the band's impeccably orchestrated compositions truly combine the sounds of a chamber orchestra with a metal band in tow. When Paginini and power metal collide, you can expect exhilaration, and that's exactly what the guys in Winds deliver. If you enjoy metaphysical metal that transcends centuries, pick this CD up.
