Fuck
Those Are Not My Bongos (Future Farmer)

By: Alex Steininger

Those Are Not My Bongos find the San Francisco-based band Fuck back, after a long hiatus. No longer on Matador, the band now calls local indie favorite Future Farmer Records home.

What you get with Those Are Not My Bongos is a record that is seemingly all over the map. Trading between the acoustic folk-rock of "Vegas", the hot jazz of "Jazz Idiodyssey", the lo-fi indie rock of "Her Plastic Acupuncture Foot", and the steady beat of the mid-tempo rocker, "A Vow", among many other things.

In a nutshell, it's an experimental indie-rock record, a record that defines and defies the classification of indie-rock, experimenting with its boarders, pushing the envelope, and playing safely within its own confines. It is a tricky, sticky line, one they walk tightly, trading between various sounds, but always making it sound very... err... Fuck.

Relaxing, jarring, chaotic, and soothing are all words you could use to describe Fuck in all their glory here. Those Are Not My Bongos is a definitive collection of what Fuck can, and will, do, and for any Fuck fans, this should be a must. I'll give it a B.
