Hazen Street
Hazen Street (DC Flag)

By: Mike SOS

Hazen Street is a hardcore supergroup of sorts, featuring members of Boxcar Racer, Cro-Mags, Madball and H2O. But make no mistake, this is not a tough guy beatdown album by any means. Quite the opposite, actually, as the quintet's debut album, released by Good Charlotte's label, explores the softer side of the hardcore underbelly, especially on the surprisingly catchy "Fool the World". Produced by Howard Benson, known for his work with POD, and co-written by Chad Gilbert of New Found Glory, somewhere underneath the tattoos and hardcore posturing, you'll find melodic chunks of punk rock safe enough for an army of high school kids to bounce along to. Many NYHC loyalists will definitely dismiss this album as a bad dream or a big hit to the band member's credibility, but if you look close to the lyrics, they basically echo the same mentalities and struggles of hardcore, only with a more accessible sound behind it. Hazen Street is, for each member's life experience alone, probably the most real pop-punk band out there, and have put out an album that is a bit of a gamble, but remains strong with conviction.
