The Amenta
Occasus (Listenable Records)

By: Jeb Branin

THE AMENTA hail from Australia and feature seasoned veterans of Oz's black and death metal scenes. Which veterans, I can't tell you because the band in an incredibly rare (but admirable) move does not promote the individuals in the band, shifting all focus instead on the sum of the parts. A wise move since on the strength of the music they play, this band is bound to turn more than a few heads in the extreme underground.

Imagine Occasus boasts the raw and frantic explosiveness of classic black metal underscoring the heavy and harsh violence of neo-death metal.

Add to the mixture a generous, but not overbearing, amount of industrial enhancements and encrust the entire sound with experimental noise and you'll have a sense of where THE AMENTA are at.

Lyrically the band presents some very intriguing poetry that examines nihilism and existentialism rather than the trite and all-too-tired gore and Satanism. If you're wise enough to pick this up, you'll be impressed.
