Dead Food
Anger Meats 3" CD (self-released)

By: Jeb Branin

It's a good thing you don't have to listen to the artwork on a CD or this would be terrible. Cheesy drawings and low quality photos of a women bathing in hamburger don't do much to endear me to a CD.

Fortunately the 3" mini-CD-collector-dork-format and the bizarre, yet oddly competent, anti-music on offer got my attention.

I had heard and mostly forgotten about DEAD FOOD's Weird Feeling album from a few years ago but Anger Meats brings it all back. One might argue their sound is somehow deeply rooted in grindcore thanks to the growling vocals and occasional blast beats, but to go so far as to actually call this grindcore would be a fool's endeavor. The music is a mix of improv jazz, ethnic-flavored dabbling (mostly Bavarian/Romanian maybe?), industrial, drone, psychedelic, sound splice, and the musical sounds that permeate amusement parks. Only those with minds flung wide open need apply.
