A side project of Nathan (from The Gossip), who handles guitars and vocals, Die Monitor Batts' Girls of War, their second full-length, delivers hearty helpings of no wave and art-punk with a chaotic, noisy, off-kilter punch. Here is the antithesis of all things melody, the distorted guitars, randomly screamed vocals, and horror or horns that flesh out the turbulent sound, creating an odd, peculiar mesh of music that somehow comes together nicely, forming a coherent, if not disturbing sound that will make hairs stand -- and fists pump. I'll give it a B-.
