Stretching Regular
Stretching Regular (Caged Giant Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Recorded between 1997 and 2003 at Jurasic and Versailles West Studios, Stretching Regular's self-titled full-length definitely sounds like a record that took six years to record. The record has high points, like "And Your Bird Can Sing", a bouncy, guitar-driven power-pop song, while "Home", the final song on the album, ends on a low note, a run-of-the-mill rocker lacking the spontaneity and punch of "Home", coming off as a song that was originally meant as a demo. Other tracks, such as "Stay Away From My Heart", which combines promising verses with a lackluster chorus, epitomize the album. It's got a lot of good aspects, but seems to have its vision lost in the years it took to make it. Maybe the next go round they'll be able to offer up something with more consistency and punch. I'll give it a C-.
