Small Towns Burn A Little Slower
Mortality As Home Entertainment (Triple Crown Records)

By: Mike SOS

From a quick listen this band may sound like a zillion others, but Small Towns Burn a Little Slower?s substance, a trait debated in the scene from the opening lyric of the first track "Forget the Fashion", helps them stand a cut above your typical melodic punk rock quintet. "There?s no room for substance/ when you?ve got abundance" is the mindset that the outfit decries through the course of its 12-track offering, teetering between nostalgic waxings on "Last Blast Off" and melodic condemnations like "Millstones and Milestones". Keeping the pace upbeat, the lyrics intriguing and at times biting, and the music sturdy and candid, STBALS fall somewhere in between Brand New, Starting Line, and Hawthorne Heights, exerting the proper balance of power punk prowess and pop-rock melodics to get the kids in a tizzy.
