SHOW REVIEW: Foo Fighters-Milwaukee, WI 7-7-97

The Foo Fighters stopped by Summerfest last Saturday to preview their new album "The Colour and the Shape." as well as turn out favorites off of their self-titled first album. My friend got a copy of the setlist and the songs were as follows: "Wind Up," "Wattershed," "Hey, JP," "Monkey Wrench," "Alone + Easy Target," "Doll," "See You," "My Poor Brain," "This is A Call," "For All the Cows," "Enough Space," "Big Me," "Weenie Beenie," "Feb Star," "Everlong," "My Way Home," "I'll Stick Around." During "My Way Home," Dave pulled a fan on stage to sing the lyrics since he did not remember them. The Foo seemed very mild-mannered on this evening. Pat Smear seemed very focused on playing instead of jumping around. Nate Mendal was in his usual playing position. The new drummer Taylor Hawkins really was impressive, reminicent of when Dave Grohl was pounding away behind the drum kit so long ago. Overall, the concert seemed a success for the fans. I was happy that they did as many old songs as they did. Around 15,000 people attended the concert (largest attendance ever for a free stage at Summerfest). The Smoking Popes opened up the show instead of the listed Supergrass.
