Check This Out, Baby!
A ONEFOOT Records Compilation (One Foot Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Eighteen bands, all on Onefoot Records equals an enjoyable night of punk rock from around the world!

Crank start it off with "Lonely Man," an edgy punk tune that can throw speed and power your way, but also throw the melody your way on occasion, which is a nice treat. Stoned bring their track, "Pizza Pete," to the compilation. A ska-punk tune about a guy who is the fastest pizza delivery boy on the block. Pep Rally's "Unhealthy Daze" brings you some punk straight from the UK. But this isn't UK hardcore punk with snotty vocals. No, they throw in clean vocals, and melodies not unlike those you may find in the Southern California area. If I didn't know better, I would even say this band sounds American (which is a compliment...because America can do punk better than anyone.) The Migraines' "Venus Sex Fiend" starts out with a spooky, alien like intro and busts right into the punk you came to hear. Pop-punk that is sure to get your palms sweating. Racer Ten throw some Canadian, melodic punk your way on "Breathe," while Latex Generation throws a powerful punk tune about how the radio has killed the scene your way. Other One Foot bands you'll find on this compilation include: Buglite, Funbox, Horace Pinker, One Good Eye, Five By Nine, and even more!

Label compilations aren't usually my favorite thing. But when you apply this to a genre-specific label, you can be more lenient. And keeping One Foot in mind, a lot of their bands are quite talented. There are a few that are old, stale, repetitive, and nothing new, but the majority are great bands that can kick out the punk tunes with the best of them. If you like ANY band on this compilation, check out some of their label mates. You just might find your new favorite band? I'll give this CD a B.
