"The Complete Studio Recordings 1974-1976" (Arf! Arf!)

The midSeventies certainly was a challenging time for anyone who hadn't quite the stomach for "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert": when not on the hunt for old Nazz and Small Faces vinyl, the most musically famished amongst us had no choice but to form their very own rockin' combos, lest the splendor of the three-minute ditty in "D" be forever lost beneath a steaming load of Trower and Tull. Central Pennsylvania's foremost proponent of this noble quest was, and possibly remains, Rick "Erik" Lindgren, whose (and I quote) "mod psych power pop" band TNT now lives on in nearly two dozen tracks lovingly restored, repackaged, and released on Erik's very own Arf! Arf! label. Unlike the majority of these digitized self-tributes, TNT's material is for the better part not only worthwhile but actually still f-u-n to listen to? even if you didn't spend your "Kotter" years in the Lutheran church halls of York County, PA. Only when tackling the intricacies of a Left Banke do cracks in the finish appear; surprisingly though, it's Lindgren's own compositions which gamely elevate this collection high above the level of mere vanity projectile.
