Dream Child Reaching The Golden Gates (Metal Blade Records) By: Jeb Branin
In spite of the title of this album DREAM CHILD were not on a quest to find San Francisco. It is much more like a quest to bring progressive power metal to the forefront of the hard rock underground once again. They play a polished and powerful style of metal that is built upon grandiose and dreamy images and sounds. Highly complex and tremendously melodic, this is one of those albums that soars out of you speakers as if taking flight on the wings of eagles. Tunes like "The Search" and "To Our Dreams" are hard hitting and powerful numbers that bring to mind JAG PANZER while others like the musical interlude "Acalmy" and its progeny "Alchemy" are beautiful and majestic in scope. Even the power ballad "Fly Again" has enough energy to not let itself trip up the flow of the album. The ultra-clean vocals of Gerard Fois are quite astounding in their range and passion. His slight French accent lends his voice a quality of worldliness that music of this scope and maturity demands. An excellent offering that fans of real heavy metal should find appealing and fans of progressive metal will flip over.
