Trail of Tears Disclosure In Red (DSFA Records) By: Jeb Branin
Another entry into the gothic metal arena. Growling death metal vocals, slow ethereal metal riffs with keyboards entwined throughout, and female vocals both operatic and more grounded. I think in its heart of hearts this album wants to be a neo- doom album in the vein of many of the artists of Century Media but it lacks the dynamics and the grandeur. Not that "Disclosure In Red" is all bad, there are a few really strong tracks but they tend to be the less experimental tunes that are more direct and heavier like "Swallowed Tears." They also tend to be the tunes where the operatic warbles are kept to a minimum or are used as atmosphere instead of a main focus. The operatic vocals are so dominating sometimes that they really clash with the music that thrives on its subtlety, not its overbearingness.
