B.G.K.
A Dutch Feast . . .The complete works of Balthasar Gerards Kommando CD (Alternative Tentacles)

By: Jeb Branin

I was so thrilled to see this CD arrive in the mail that I actually took an hour off work the minute it came so I could listen to it. B.G.K. are one of those classic hardcore bands that I totally missed the boat on when they were still around. Yeah I had heard of them and I even had a couple of songs by them I loved on various compilations but every time I had a chance to pick up one of their records I would opt for something else. Probably some stupid spandex metal record or something like that. I was an idiot. By the time I really wanted to hear more from them I couldn't find anything. But now... now I can have it all. Their complete discography all on one disc. If I lived in San Francisco I'd drop by the offices of Alternative Tentacles and give each and every one of them a big smooch. B.G.K. play high octane political hardcore that was at the pinnacle of the early 80s sound. It is raw, passionate, real, and full bore. Snotty attitude, spastic execution, and sharp song writing (that is quite a bit more complex than the average band of the time) makes for a truly fine listen. B.G.K are every bit as relevant today as they were 15 years ago, in some ways more so. Need I even say this is mandatory?
