Laurie Lindeen A Pregnant Pause (Soundproof/Monolyth) By: Geoff Melton
After the demise of her sorely overlooked group Zuzu's Petals in 1995, former frontwoman Laurie Lindeen took a break and wrote the novel My Boyfriend's Dead, before finally returning to music with the charming pop sounds of her long overdue solo EP a pregnant pause. Over the course of the six cuts here, Lindeen shows suprising diversity, moving from punchy tunes like "Lies" and "Cool Me Down" to the stripped down, all-acoustic "Poor Halley" and "Today", a lush tune strongly reminiscent of Carol King's "It's Too Late". She also turns in a couple covers with her bouncy take on Herman Hermit's "Don't Go Out In The Radio" (a duet with Grandpaboy, aka Paul Westerberg) and a beautiful version of the Bee Gee's "Run To Me". Hopefully a full-lengther will surface in the near future.
