Kris Kristofferson
Kristofferson (Epic Records)

By: Alex Steininger

One of the pioneers in outlaw country, such notables like Janis Joplin and Johnny Cash have championed Kristofferson's tales of people at the end of their rope. His music is abrasive and rough, having very little to do with polished at times. Though, it is his storytelling that has made him a favorite amongst the outlaw country scene. Proof is found in songs like "Me and Bobby McGee", "The Law Is For Protection of the People", "Casey's Last Ride", and "The Junkie and the Juciehead, Minus Me," one of four bonus tracks found on the re-issue of this CD. His voice is smoky and tells the tale with precision, drawing you in with curiosity and anxiety. Think Johnny Cash with less polish. I'll give this CD an A+.
