Nitpickers Nitpickers (Rustic) By: Geoff Melton
As soon as I popped this disc in and the first cut hit the speakers I was instantly gratified with the catchy bluegrass flavored "Borrowed Time" with its stellar musicianship and strong vocal harmonies (all four members tackle vocals throughout the disc). When the laser then hit cut #2 I was more than surprised. Led by Dave Insley's lower than low vocals (think The Beat Farmers late great vocalist/drummer Country Dick Montana) that cut, "Tunnel Road" is a quirky piece strongly reminiscent of early Bad Livers. Throughout the remaining eight cuts this talented four-piece (their instrumental virtuosity is more than evident on "Jig It To Beaver") continues this energetic and fun (albeit a bit twisted lyrically) path, with more traditional sounding bluegrass, country, rock and even some swampy Cajun all thrown in along the way.
