Desaparecidos
Read Music, Speak Spanish (Saddle-Creek)

By: Alex Steininger

Loud, abrasive, with a lot of pain and agony locked away, only to be unleashed now, The Desaparecidos (what does that mean in Spanish, anyhow?) deliver a spine-tingling, emotionally-draining rock record burning with so much intensity. Like Bright Eyes, The Desaparecidos are fronted by Conor Oberst. Known for his confessional, ready-to-break vocals in Bright Eyes, Oberst brings them with him here. As the band roars, Oberst screams and wails, leaving the listener with the feeling that he is either going to break down and cry or go nuts, get even crazier, and wear his heart on his sleeve. The latter is what you get, and it is quite rewarding, the perfect outlet for anyone that is depressed, angry, or feeling in the mood to just plain rock. Oberst may not have the most technical voice, but he uses it to his advantage in so many ways, you can't help but feel as if you know him and everything he's going through. I'll give this an A+.
