The compilation that put Deep Elm Records on the map, The Emo Diaries is back. Chapter 7, entitled Me Against The World is a loud, abrasive blast of new and up-and-coming generic emo. The originators of the genre have long moved on or are still cranking out the classic emo in their current projects, while imitators like Tabula Rasa and Before Braille make feeble attempts at convincing you they mean anything they sing. There are a few bands that are the exception to the rule, such as Time Spent Driving and Halifax Code. But, for the most part, this compilation is a wash. The series that made the label just refuses to lay to rest when it needs to. I'll give it a C-.
