Triangle
Triangle (File-13 Records)

By: Alex Steininger

The boy-girl indie pop of Minnesota's Amanda Warner and Brian Tester (aka Triangle) is quite lo-key, using a drum machine and programming in place of a drummer, with Warner's bass supple, but faint, and Tester's guitar second to the vocals, which carry the melody. Whether it is Tester offering up a ragged backing vocal track or leading the songs with his slumbering, dry singing style. Or Warner providing the backing vocals or a sweet drip of melodic goodness as she leads, it is the vocals that take center stage, with the music passively flowing in the background, seemingly oblivious to the words that its creators are offering. Still, the soft, well-spoken music doesn't have to overpower you or drive the show to win you over. It earns points with its slightly experimental, easy-natured beats and favorable melodies. I'll give it a B+.
